Our methodology draws on five complementary streams. Each stream contributes a different angle on the same underlying questions: what is changing in African consumer markets, why, and what it means for the companies that operate in them.
Public statistics and multilateral data
Customs and trade statistics from national customs authorities, central bank releases, statistical bureau publications, and multilateral institution data including the World Bank, IMF, IEA, UN Comtrade, and the African Development Bank.
Published industry research
Published research from industry associations, sector regulators, and reputable commercial research providers. Where licensed, we reference these sources by name in our publications.
Category-level demand signals
Category-level signals on consumer demand, product availability, and pricing trends gathered through standard desk research methods and field observation across selected African markets.
Structured interviews
Structured interviews with industry operators, distributors, logistics providers, and category specialists, conducted under standard market research ethics.
On-the-ground perspective
On-the-ground observations from our local partners across South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya, focused on operational realities that are not visible in aggregate statistics.
We do not republish raw third-party data. All findings are synthesised, aggregated, and contextualised before publication. Where individual sources are referenced, attribution is provided. We respect the terms of service of platforms and data providers we draw on.
